There are few events that I think could mean more than a big WELCOME HOME for our men and women of the United States military. DFW airport and many other locations across the U.S. give us all an opportunity to show support for and love on those who have sacrificed so much for us. Take the time to get involved. Military arrivals at DFW consists of 150-250 service men and women EACH DAY! Schedules are available so you know exactly when to arrive and won't be standing around waiting. With parking and greeting you can expect to spend approximately an hour, but will likely want to stay much longer. Call 972.574.0392 for volunteer schedules.

What a week! It was full of excitement, love, laughter and many friends and family. Sharon and Jason were awesome and enjoyed the days up to the wedding although the weather wasn't in our favor. All of our prayers were answered with the safe arrival of guests and weather that allowed the wedding AND reception to take place on the beach! The ceremony was lovely with bride and groom clearly and loudly shouting "I Do". The sound of crashing waves couldn't cover up their love for each other :) The mariachi band ushered in the bridal party by playing Cannon in D, followed by the traditional bridal march. Sharon was escorted by both her mother and father. After the ceremony, guests were presented with glasses of champagne for a toast on the beach prior to many, many family pictures.

The reception was set atop a sandy ridge covered in palm trees overlooking the beautiful water and beach. All were treated to an elegant dinner including salad, lobster bisque, fillet mignon and lobster tails. Sheila, the maid of honor and Paul, the best man, gave lovely toasts to Sharon and Jason. There was also one other special toast. Mike, one of the groomsmen proposed to M.J., one of the bridesmaids! She was totally shocked. It was quite a moment.

Congratulations Sharon and Jason! It was an honor working with you to create a week that was Absolutely You.

Working with Mark and Ryan was great. We were able to make their vision come true. One of the best things were the fun surprises Dad had in store! We had a 20 minute fireworks display and presented Ryan with a photo album. Her father, Scott had taken photos from through out her life and we put it together in a beautiful album which he surprised her with at the toast. It was definitely a fun night of great music, dancing and surprises!

Erin and Pierre were a blast to work with. Patti, mother of the bride, and Erin knew what they wanted and added many special little details. The ring bearer's pillow was made by Patti and included buttons from Erin's great grandmother's button box and they had a grog ceremony at the reception. (It's a military thing :) The most talked about piece of the wedding coordination was Erin and Greg's (father of the bride) entrance. As the bridal party entered from separate entrances and met at the top of the aisle, it was fun to watch all guests looking to see where Erin was going to appear from. Then the moment appeared as they walked over the hill directly toward the guests. It was magical and looked like they were being ushered by a breeze over a hilltop you would find in areas such as the likes of Ireland, but instead found in sunny Casa Grande, AZ. (check back for professional pictures of this moment in a few weeks)

The reception took place at the home of the bride's parents. It boasted of soft, billowy curtains dancing in the evening breeze with a glow from paper lanterns swaying in the trees plus the shimmer of floating candles dancing off the water in the pool.

They were blessed with approximately 120 guests from California to New York and all were treated to the beautiful voice of Sarah, Erin's dear friend, who is an opera singer in New York. It was a beautiful day filled with much love for a beautiful couple. Congratulations Erin and Pierre!

We had the opportunity to visit a very special and unique wedding and event location this week in Texas. Adriatica. Adriatica, whose design is inspired by Croatian villages with a mix of Italian flare, is sure to become one of the most desired wedding locations in North Texas. Print on both sides of computer paper (on wedding invitations use the same card for accommodations and directions by simply putting the directions on the back instead of using a separate directions card)

Turn off water when brushing teeth instead of letting it even drizzle

Purchase a groovy water bottle or mug for the gym or office instead of purchasing bottled water (this is a good idea for business travelers and honeymooners who tend to buy beverages in plastic bottles once through security)

Purchase grocery totes to use on every grocery store visit

"I was born overseas. I have spent most of my life traveling and living abroad. I've been even planning for over ten years and absolutely (no pun intended) LOVE it! Recently married, I am blessed to have an incredible husband. One of the Bible verses that I try to focus my life and marriage on is 1 Corinthians 13:13...And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Tis the season to be busy and I love it. Arizona is a unique location for wedding and event planners. Our busy season isn't the summer like most of our counterparts across the U.S. Our busy season is September through April for the most part and why wouldn't it be? The weather is fabulous giving not only brides and grooms a day to remember, but also guests and corporate employees a well deserved break, especially for those travelling from out of town. In addition to the prime wedding season we still experience the busy holiday season. Christmas and New Year's send all of us in the business into overdrive. The parties are a nice addition to weddings and large corporate events. Here are some pictures from an office "Open House" I planned this past week. Destination Paradise

When looking for destination locations for weddings and corporate events most "beachy" resorts typically offer sand, water, palm trees and amazing sunsets but not much else. I visited the Boca Raton Golf and Beach Resort and was quite impressed. Not only did I walk by multi-million dollar yachts on a daily basis, I also walked by gardens, fountains, golf course views, beautiful, unique ballrooms and a fabulous spa with private pool. This is a resort that can certainly offer the Florida loving client more than just sand. The amenities and staff were top of the line. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I attended the women's dinner at Red Mountain Community church a couple of weeks ago and had so much fun. Each table was sponsored by a woman who was in charge of its design. 10 Biggest Mistakes Wedding Guests Make!

I realize that I talk about weddings quite a bit, but must remember many have already had their big day. Regardless the chance of us all being wedding guests in the future is pretty high so make sure you don't make this list.

1) Not sending RSVP's. Please send these in. They're so important from the planning and budgeting aspects. If you received an invitation, the couple obviously wants you there, but they need to know if they need to rent a chair for you to sit in or a dinner for you to eat. Help them out by sending your RSVP.

2) Sending RSVPs With Extra Guests. Once again this becomes a budgeting and planning issue. The average Arizona wedding cost $29,000. Bringing additional guests can rack up charges quickly at $80-$150 per plate, plus rentals of chairs, china, napkins, etc. Please be understanding if they allow dates only if you're engaged or children 18 and older.

3)Bombarding the Bride! The bride is busy. See if they have a website to answer your questions.

4)Buying a non-registry gift. The bride and groom took the time to make this process easy for you and to register for things they really need and will use, with the occasional fun item. Pick something from the register that reminds you of a funny story about them or your marriage and include that in the card. This way you both win.

5)Showing up late. Just don't unless it's an emergency. They may have arranged for you to be included in pictures or have you seated in a place of honor without you knowing it. If you are truely attending for the bride and groom attend. If you are attending to be seen or for political reasons, just check the regrets on the RSVP.

6)Bringing a big, heavy gift. Do yourself and the couple a favor and have it shipped to the bride or groom. That way you don't have to lug it around and they don't either.

7)Giving unexpected toasts.

8)Requesting Songs unless the DJ asks you to.

9)Drinking too much. Remember there will likely be a videographer. Be warned. You may end up on UTube.

10)Crashing Your Wedding. If you weren't invited please don't attend. It's not all the movie makes it out to be. They may also have undercover security.

We had the distinct honor of working on the Princess Project dinner this past summer up in Payson. The Princess Project is for teenage girls in foster care here in Arizona. They are treated to a day of pampering and formal evening to celebrate the beautiful young ladies God created them to be. Each girl was given the opportunity to choose a formal dress, shoes, and jewelry to keep. They were also treated to beautiful hairstyles and make-up by the Dolce team who came up for the day. Each girl was given a corsage, escorted down the red carpet into the formal dining room and treated to an elegant dinner followed by dance lessons by a professional dance instructor. It was a splendid evening.

Kate & Joe's Cake Rental

Last weekend I had the pleasure of working with a really cool couple, Kate and Joe. It was a fabulous wedding with unique twists including a kilt-wearing DJ, an Internet ordained minister Chelsea,who rocked by the way, and a rented cake. Originally the cake was to be made by an aunt, but when that fell through a few weeks before the wedding Kate learned of cake rental and had their designer cake shipped in from Michigan. It costs from $100-$150 for the cake design of your choice and up to $100 to ship it. You can then buy your favorite flavors of cake "sheet" style like a birthday cake and serve a large number of guests for a much more affordable price than traditional large wedding cakes. The cake is made of styrofoam with one section left open for you to stuff Twinkies or a slice of cake inside. You can cut the cake and serve the cake to each other as brides and grooms usually do. With all the devastation this week and smoke spanning from San Diego to L.A. California still lived up to it's romantic beach image. I sat rooftop Tuesday night at a beach side restaurant in Hermosa Beach and took in the beautiful sunset. There was an amazing beach front resort right next door. Beach weddings this time of year are very reasonably priced. This is actually their low season, although the weather is lovely and much better suited for weddings. I love small towns, especially small Southern towns. I love them so much that I chose to get married at my parents home in Arkansas instead of Arizona. They live on 5 beautiful green acres. Nature isn't the only draw for me. It's the food too. I just visited one of my favorite eateries a few weeks ago, Cotham's Mercantile. They are home to the famous "Hub Cap" hamburger. Why is it called "Hub Cap" you may ask. These hamburgers really are as big as an old hubcap from an automobile. Sound like this may push your diet overboard? Split one with a friend, but don't forget the fried green tomatos and sweet tea. They're a must! This restaurant is minutes from the Little Rock airport. Fly in for a day or weekend getaway. While in northern Texas this week I came across a sweet find, Margie's Sweet Shop and Deli. I was driving by and noticed a beautiful wedding dress and the mention of wedding cakes and simply had to pop in and check out two of my favorite things, weddings and sweets! I walked into a bakery with shelves of tempting delights staring right back at me along with smiling faces to greet me. I felt the calories soaking into my body just by the aroma of cakes, breads and other fine treats. The trend for wedding cakes in this neck of the country tends to be polka dots. How much fun! Do It Yourself Wedding Favors

Whew! My feet are killing me. I just returned from this morning's wedding, the wedding of John and Jing. (I will have pictures for you in the near future) It was such a beautiful day that I would actually call it a perfect wedding day. It was cool but sunny with a light breeze. After summer weddings with melting make-up, cakes, favors and wilting flowers to contend with I couldn't be happier with today's outcome. I love seeing couples add personal touches to their wedding. John & Jing are of Chinese decent and they did a lovely job mixing Western tradition with their Chinese heritage. When guests signed in they had a beautiful red and gold box with favors. Each favor was determined by the birth year of each guest. My symbol was a snake. I opened my package and was told that I "am wise and intense with a tendency toward physical beauty, yet also vain and high tempered and that the Rooster and Ox are my best signs. Lucky for me my husband is an Ox :) Who knew! I loved this special touch and so did the guests. I was also inspired by the Today Show's wedding, this past Friday, featuring Arizona's own Jessica and Codey. Jessica loves saltwater taffy so the guests had Tiffany green salt water taffy simply packaged in parchment paper with a personalized seal. How easy is that?!! Now that the weather is cooler try to make homemade chocolates for your guest favors. You can buy molds at Michael's or Wal-Mart. Get your bridal party together and make your own chocolate favors and treat yourselves by licking the spoons! Enjoy every moment of the process.

Travel: Be Prepared For The Unexpected

Most of you have probably heard about the new passport requirements. Those of us living in the United States have been spoiled with easy travel and few regulations when flying to the Mexican Riviera or Canada for getaways. In the near future you will need passports to travel to these fabulous nearby destinations and beyond so beware.

Be prepared. My husband and I booked our honeymoon as soon as we had a wedding date. We were to go on a fabulous cruise leaving from Galveston, TX to scuba and snorkel in Belize. Four weeks before our wedding hurricane Katrina ravaged the gulf coast and our ship was then sent to New Orleans. We weren't upset due to the circumstances but were upset that the cruiseline would not get us in an open room on another cruise for the same rate we booked six months prior. They would put us on another ship at last minute prices! That wasn't fair. We got our money back and ended up getting great airfare to Ireland where Marriott went above and beyond to help out this Marriott Rewards member in finding a fabulous location for our honeymoon. All was well. However if we had not decided to get our passports just for the heck of it we would have been in a pickle. Getting your passport can take from 3-12 weeks so get in line. A trip of a lifetime could depend on it.

As a current resident of Phoenix in the midst to high heat and humidity, my trip to Colorado was just what I needed. What an amazing place for retreats, family trips, weddings and bridal party events. I feel certain we can create a memorable event in Colorado for Brides and Grooms with versatile interests. Many of today's brides and grooms seem to have it all and question the tradition of registering for gifts so I wanted to pass along Kimi's question and some options.

Good question Kimi. I would be happy to assist. Many couples who are in your situation pick a charity and ask that if guests wish to give a gift they contribute to their chosen charity. Other options include registering with a mortgage company and asking guests to contribute to an escrow account for a future home or registering your honeymoon. This way guests can still contribute to something you will own and begin a life together in or contribute toward a fabulous honeymoon. Celebrate Your Independence From Clutter!

Wow! What a hot 4th of July here in Arizona. It's 115 degrees and counting. Temperatures like this inspire me to give clients a bit of advice....do your spring cleaning now. Yes I know it's summer, but why spend a beautiful spring day inside when you beg for the opportunity these hot summer days.

Brides and Grooms:
Take a day off from the wedding plans. Spend a day decluttering your homes. You will soon be moving in together and sharing every inch of your home, especially your closets. When I got married I donated five bags of clothing to the local Goodwill and it felt great! Don't just focus on clothes though. Go through the bathroom vanities, kitchen drawers, offices, closets, and garages. Weed out! This is particularly important for the one moving in with the other. Move those items you don't use to a local shelter, Goodwill or Salvation Army. Your life is going to be very busy and often messy. There will be presents, thank you cards, pieces of luggage for the honeymoon and much else filling up your space. Having a clean space to begin with will help you deal with all the stress.

Businesses and Corporations:
You need to take a day off to declutter as well. You may think "My office can't take a day off. Is she crazy?" I do have my crazy moments but this isn't one of them. When we're not organized we waste a lot of time searching for that piece of paper, e-mail or file that "was just here". A messy work area creates stress for all who are involved. Analyze your business and pick a day or two during your slow season. Allow everyone to come in casually dressed or maybe even have t-shirts made for everyone to make the cleaning experience a little more fun. Set goals. From 8am-10am have everyone clean up their e-mail inboxes and files. From 10am-10:15am take a break. Snack on some fresh fruit, granola bars, etc. Come back from 10:15-12:15 and have everyone clean out their desks. For a job well done, treat your staff to a team building exercise that afternoon.
